Yes! I Have A Coach Too!

Coaching

Yes, this coach has a coach! Surprised? That’s how much I value coaching!

I’ve been meeting with my coach for more than twelve years! My how time flies! And I’ve had the privilege of working with some amazing mentor coaches as well.

Life is always changing. Nearly every day brings the unexpected, so having a coach by my side has truly been a blessing! It’s helped me navigate moves, major life changes, and even the season with Lyme disease. Most importantly, the coaching process has invited greater self-awareness, which has sparked some wildly beneficial changes!

I’m abundantly grateful for the supportive relationship I have with my coach. It’s motivated and inspired me to walk more fully in who God created me to BE!

Oh, yes!  I know firsthand the happy perks that coaching provides and I don’t want to miss out on that!

Here’s the Surprising Part…

I am a fiercely independent gal! From the time I was a little, I liked doing things myself! I had big ideas, big plans, and asking for help was always a last resort! After all, “I can do it myself!”

Age has not worn away my desire for independence, but I have learned the value of enlisting the help of others.

It seems counterintuitive, but letting go and enlisting the help of others (including God of course!), paves the way to not only doing life smarter but also in a more joy-filled way!

That’s one of the many reasons I have my own coach.

Ever Worked With A Coach?

I often cringe when I hear people chatting about coaching! There are so many misconceptions!

Describing the coaching experience or how transformative a coaching session is can be tough! I get it! It’s hard to imagine how a conversation accomplishes so much, but I dare you to give it a try and see for yourself!

There’s no shame in hiring a personal trainer, right? If you truly want results, partnering with someone devoted to your fitness is a fantastic way to reach your goals. Plus, odds are good that you will get superior results faster!

Hiring a coach is a lot like hiring a personal trainer. And the beauty of working with a life coach is that they are trained to bring to the surface the beliefs and/or thinking that have been keeping you from approaching life in more sustainable and productive ways!

It Might Surprise You…

Steve Jobs, Eric Schmidt (previously CEO of Google), Bill Gates, Michael Hyatt, and many other top executives have not only worked with a coach, but readily admit the benefits.

No matter what your opinion is of Oprah, Bill Clinton, or Barack Obama, it’s hard to argue their success. What do they all have in common – they have each worked with a coach.

Achieving success as a sports figure – that doesn’t just happen either; that’s why people like Serena Williams, Michael Phelps, LeBron James, and countless others not only have a sports coach, they have worked with a life coach too! They are well aware that success isn’t a solo adventure!

Coaching isn’t just about seeking success. It’s also about sustainability, growth, and cultivating a joy-filled journey.

It’s Time Saving!

My life is full. I’m sure yours is too because time is limited for us all. I want to steward my time well. After all, stewardship is one of my Top 5 Values!

An hour spent with my coach actually ends up saving me time! I walk away with fresh perspectives, renewed energy, and practical next steps. It’s surprising what I’m able to accomplish in such a short time. An investment of time that’s well worth it!

I confess that some weeks, it feels like a stretch to fit a coaching session in, but typically those are the sessions that walk away with the greatest insights.

There’s so much more I could share, but here are a dozen reasons why I work with a coach! I work with a coach because it…

1. Expands My SELF-AWARENESS

The more I work with leaders, professionals, and entrepreneurs, the more I see how the need for greater self-awareness and how self-awareness leads to profound growth and change. I want that too!

Every session expands my self-awareness in some unexpected way that sparks the growth and change in me, that I see unfold in others! I love that!

2. Challenges Me To STRETCH

It’s a beautiful thing to have someone see what you are capable of and then urge you to reach for more. That’s what my coach challenges me to do! Step more fully into my potential!

3. Shifts My PERSPECTIVE

When I ponder on my own, it’s easy to go around and around in circles. Ever been there?

I know how even a small shift in perspective opens the door to exciting opportunities. When my coach asks a single powerful question about whatever it is I’m exploring it does just that. It shifts my perspective and leads me in some very surprising and happy directions! And to some very creative solutions too!

4. Reveals BLIND SPOTS & BARRIERS

I’m passionate about helping others overcome fear, blind spots, and other barriers because I want to make a difference. I want them to live and work in a way that enables them to be more productive, experience less stress, and is sustainable. I want them to enjoy the “abundant life.” All too often they are blind to what’s in the way.

I’m no different! I have blind spots and barriers too! With the help of my coach what I’ve been missing and or what’s been holding me back comes to light. Then I’m able to determine the best course of action to address those blind spots and barriers.

5. Leads To Greater CLARITY

Ever feel like you have perfect clarity until you try and describe what’s in your head to someone else?

Conversations with my coach have a way of exposing what’s fuzzy and she observes the unique ways that God has gifted me that I overlook. With her outside perspective, I’ve realized that areas that I’ve take for granted, are actually unique to me! That’s so helpful!

6. Makes Me More INTENTIONAL

Working with my coach helps me weed out the unimportant so that I’m more intentional with my life, work, and next steps. That saves me time and eliminates a lot of frustration.

7. Invites Positive CHANGES

To get where I want to be, change is necessary. You could say that serving my own clients hinges on my ability to change myself!

Knowing what to change and how to make those changes are frequently the subject of our coaching conversations. I know firsthand how challenging changes is, so I’m thankful for a coach that makes that process just a little easier.

8. Keeps Me ACCOUNTABLE

There’s nothing like the incentive of an upcoming coaching session to set me into action. After all, I don’t want to show up having not done what I said I would do! Sometimes it’s the check-in that I’ve committed to that keeps me on task. Either way, accountability is good!

9. Provides A Safe Place To PROCESS

One of the most valuable aspects of coaching for me is the opportunity to put my thoughts into words. As I process verbally, I arrive at insights and understanding that just doesn’t happen any other way. My coach hears what I say and she hears what I don’t say. She listens, spots additional areas to be explored – areas that I might otherwise miss.

10. A Sweet SUPPORT!

My Coach likes to have fun. Celebrating is her specialty! It’s a happy reward to celebrate my wins with her!

11. Covers Me In PRAYER

My Coach is a fellow believer. I value that! I know that she allows the Holy Spirit to guide our coaching times and that she lifts me up afterwards too! Knowing that she is interceding on my behalf is priceless!

12. Helps Me REMEMBER…

It would be easy to forget what it’s like to be coached if I didn’t work with a coach myself. My personal coaching sessions inspire me to be more sensitive and loving towards my own clients. It motivates me to keep improving my coaching processes, my coaching skills, how I communicate with my clients, and more!

Yes, even this independent gal must admit enlisting the help of my coach has been quite beneficial! It’s easy too because coaching takes place over the phone so it easily fits it into my schedule. There’s no travel time and I can do it from anywhere.

How would working with a coach make a difference in your life and/or work? What changes would you like to see take place?

Already working with a coach – I’d enjoy hearing some of the benefits you’ve experienced!
