7 Powerful Mindsets You Need to Succeed
Mindsets are powerful! They are either working for you or against you quietly in the background. Ordinarily, you don’t give much thought to your mindset or realize all the ways you are depending on it until…you really need it!
These days, my phone is with me everywhere I go. And I’m able to do a host of non-phone related tasks on it too! Tasks that would have been impossible a few decades ago!
Phones used to be bigger and stuck in one place – hung on the kitchen wall or parked on a phone stand. Phone conversations kept you tethered to the phone and chatting within earshot of the entire family! Honestly, as a teenager, that’s why I preferred the phone nestled in my parent’s bedroom where a private conversation could be had!
The amazing flexibility phones offer today is remarkable and because they are small and go anywhere, are more vulnerable to accidents! The first cell phone I destroyed met its end in the washer – something even rice couldn’t fix!
The next cell phone met with a liquid death – the victim of my hot tea! Don’t ask – it was a wacky moment!
I’ve also shattered my husband’s iPhone.
To make matters worse, my silly cell phone incidents happened at the most inconvenient moments revealing just how dependent I am on the small device!
In the same way, your negative thinking patterns show up at the most critical moments too! Just when you need to be at your best – that negative thinking or funky mindset rears its ugly head! That’s when it’s especially apparent that your mindset – your thoughts and beliefs -impact everything! You are utterly dependent on it!
What do do?
In those moments, you may push forward or give up, but do you get to the root of the thinking that’s holding you back? Those moments are perfect opportunities to explore your thoughts and beliefs!
The good news, you don’t have to wait until a crisis shows up to explore your mindsets. You simply have to become more aware and be more curious about the thinking that is driving you. In order to do that, you will need to slow down and be courageously honest with yourself! Then you can work on intentionally managing your mindsets and renewing your mind just like Romans 12:2 suggests…
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (ESV)
With that in mind, here are 7 powerful mindsets worth embracing:
1. I Have All the Time I Need!
Yes! You have all the time you need. Slow down. Trust. Stop rushing. Take your time and really enjoy what you have to do – it’s life! Be present.
Now, this is not permission to lollygag and neglect what needs to be done. It’s permission to stop racing and striving and to take delight in what’s before you. So slow down and have a little fun as you navigate your to do list! And watch for God show up in exciting ways.
Time is valuable! When you believe you don’t have enough time (scarcity), then guess what – you will never have enough time!
However, when you believe you have plenty of time to accomplish what God has for you to do, it changes everything!
Make the most of every chance you get. These are desperate times! Ephesians 5:16 (MSG)
2. I Am Loved!
Deeply loved by the Maker of the universe! He intentionally knit you together for a unique purpose. God loves you with a love that is so intense that He sent His Son to die and pay for your sin making it possible for Him to enjoy a relationship with YOU!
He has a purpose in mind for you – something only you can do when you partner with Him!
When you live loved it dramatically changes the way you see and do life!
Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb. Psalm 139:13 (MSG)
This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. John 3:16a (MSG)
None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing – nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable – absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us. Romans 8:37-39 (MSG)
3. I Can!
You are well aware of your limitations. You probably have doubts about yourself and your abilities too. And in today’s media connected world, it’s easy to compare yourself to others and feel less than. You may hesitate to put yourself out there – after all, everyone will know if you screw up! As result, you refrain from taking risks and stepping outside your comfort zone. Yet all that God has for you is outside that safety bubble!
The truth is that with Him all things are possible! With Him by your side, you are more capable than you think you are! So, believe – tell yourself “I Can!”
I can do all things through Christ, because He gives me strength. Philippians 4:13 (NCV)
4. I Have What I Need!
Have you been putting off taking the plunge into what God’s called you to do? Or maybe you’ve been holding off on embracing the next level of His plan for you – waiting for the perfect moment when all your ducks are in a row.
The truth is, God doesn’t give you the resources, strength, inspiration, etc. UNTIL you step out and begin taking action! So, no more waiting around for the perfect moment, researching more, or attempting to see the plan in all its glorious details!
Now is the time! You have what you need! You have Him. No more excuses. Remember, God often stays silent until you do what He’s asked you to do.
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8 (ESV)
5. I Am Bold, Courageous, & Fearless!
Yes! You are bold, courageous, and fearless! And if you are like me, that feeling comes and goes. Some days you feel like you are firing on all cylinders and then there are those days where you truly struggle to face the day.
Either way, being bold, courageous, and fearless is NOT about mustering up that feeling. No, it’s about simply reflecting God – letting Him shine through you in your own unique way: who He created you to BE. That’s when you are at your best. That’s when you are bold, courageous, and fearless! And when you are focused on reflecting Him in this way, you are more effective, your desires are met, and you are more confident.
Whatever God has in mind for you, it will require you to do it WITH Him…boldly!
God doesn’t want us to be shy with his gifts, but bold and loving and sensible. 2 Timothy 1:7 (MSG)
Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 (ESV)
Light, space, zest – that’s God! So, with Him on my side I’m fearless, afraid of no one and nothing. Psalm 27:1 (MSG)
6. Baby Steps Count!
Is your focus on how far you have to go or what isn’t getting done? That perspective is discouraging!
Instead, choose to see that achieving something big is about dozens and dozens of baby steps strung together. And each and every one of those baby steps matters – they count! It requires you to trust God AND it all adds up! Those who do something remarkable don’t give up – they consistently keep on taking those baby steps.
Each step in the right direction counts. Doing something is always better than doing nothing!
Mark well that God doesn’t miss a move you make; He’s aware of every step you take. Proverbs 5:21 (MSG)
…for we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7 (ESV)
7. There’s HOPE!
On the way to accomplishing something big there WILL be ups and downs!
Pursuing what God’s called you to do? It will probably take longer than you ever anticipated, be more difficult than you imagined, and the unexpected challenges more than you thought possible. Don’t lose heart! There is HOPE. Those are amazing opportunities for God to come through in ways that only He can do!
When your hope wavers, that’s an invitation to connect more deeply to Him!
And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in you. Psalm 39:7 (ESV)
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13 (ESV)
Stepping out and taking on something big? Don’t be surprised if a negative thinking pattern or two pops up. It happens! The goal is to get quicker at recognizing the negative mindset and intentionally shifting it to truth – a truly powerful mindset!
I need my phone. It serves me in many ways! And I need a mindset that enables me to do what God’s given me to do!
Your thinking will play tricks on you, but with God’s help you can make an amazing difference!
What mindset or way of thinking has helped you?
Which of the above mindsets do you need to intentionally work on?
